Beautiful resistance: theatre from Gaza now

  • Quaker Meeting House 7 Victoria Street Edinburgh, Scotland, EH1 2JL United Kingdom (map)

Join us for an evening of powerful storytelling and captivating performances as part of Beautiful Resistance: Theatre from Gaza Now. Despite the hell on earth that every man, woman and child has experienced for the past seven months in Gaza, young people and teachers involved in the Hands Up Project are still continuing to create and perform inspirational theatre.

In this illustrated talk, Nick Bilbrough, the founder of the educational charity Hands Up Project will share the stories behind two short plays. The first It will be over soon is performed by children in a newly formed drama club in Jabalia camp, northern Gaza. The second I can 2024 is a remake of a winning play from the 2018 remote theatre competition, performed from their tents in Rafah.

Supported by the Scottish Palestinian Forum and Peace & Justice (Scotland), this talk is part of a series of events curated by Heather Kiernan and Iliyana Nedkova to accompany the touring exhibition Moon Tell Me Truth. An initiative of the Hands Up Project, the exhibition features art and poems from the children of Gaza. The exhibition has been touring venues across the United Kingdom and runs at Edinburgh's Scottish Poetry Library 28 May - 20 June 2024.
