Mechthild Lier joined us in 2023 for the daily ceasefire vigils. In 2024, she started as a HUP volunteer in link-ups with Aida Basic Boys’ School in the West Bank. In the first link-up year, the boys joined from their homes, in the second year they have been joining as a whole class. Mechthild loves the truly international cooperation with the Palestinian teacher on the ground (Sofia Ramadan, later Samya Um Ahmad) and co-volunteer Gopika Gopakumar (India / UK). Additionally, she volunteered in the HUP poetry course run by Alice and Peter Oswald and in the conversation course led by Manuela Kelly Calzini. She also likes to spread the word about Palestine and the HUP in Germany. (ELTA-Rhine Newsletter 02/24)
